Obum Gwacham Selected by Seattle in 6th Round
CHICAGO – Former Oregon State defensive end Obum Gwacham has been selected with the 33rd pick in the 6th round (209th overall) by the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday in the 2015 National Football League Draft.
In 2014, Gwacham shifted positions from wide receiver to defensive end where he made an immediate impact for the Beavers recording four quarterback sacks in the first four games of the season. He finished the season with 28 tackles including 5.5 tackles-for-loss and one forced fumble.
Gwacham’s selection represents the second straight year an OSU defensive end has been drafted into the NFL. Scott Crichton was selected in the third round with the 72nd overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014. In addition to Crichton, Gwacham joins three other former OSU defensive linemen in the league – Victor Butler (New York Giants), Dwan Edwards (Carolina Panthers) and Gabe Miller (Washington Redskins).
He is just the third OSU player drafted by Seattle and is the first since the Seahawks selected offensive lineman Doug Nienhuis in the seventh round of the 2005 draft.
