Ryan Murphy Selected by Seattle in 7th Round

CHICAGO – Former Oregon State safety Ryan Murphy has been selected with the 31st in the 7th round (248th overall) by the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday in the 2015 National Football League Draft.
The Oakland, Calif. native finished his career with 235 tackles including 17.5 tackles-for-loss from the safety position. He registered 21 passes defended, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery to go along with 1.5 sacks and seven interceptions. The three-year starter recorded two touchdowns in his career, one on a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown against USC in 2013 and the other a 97-yard kickoff return at USC in 2014.
Murphy’s selection marks the third time in the last four years that an OSU defensive back has been drafted into the NFL. Jordan Poyer was selected in the seventh round by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 and Brandon Hardin was taken in the third round of the 2012 draft by the Chicago Bears.
He is just the fourth OSU player drafted by Seattle and joins former OSU teammate Obum Gwacham who was taken by the Seahawks in the sixth round earlier in the day.
