Last Game
KJ Harrison homered in the fifth inning and Michael Gretler drove in two with a single later in the inning to help send the Beavers to a 5-2 win over Stanford in the opener Friday night. Harrison also drove in a run in the first to give him two on the night. Caleb Hamilton also drove in a run in the second.
Versus Stanford
Oregon State is on an nine-game win streak over Stanford, which is the longest in school history against the Cardinal. Overall, OSU is 12-1 in its last 13 versus Stanford.
Tie For Second
Oregon State’s win, coupled with UCLA’s victory and Arizona State’s loss, pushed the Beavers into a tie for second place in the Pac-12. It’s Oregon State’s highest standing since the second game of Pac-12 play. Separation may happen further tonight as USC and California, teams also in a tie for second with the Beavers and ASU, open a three-game series in Berkeley.
Harrison’s Big Week So Far
KJ Harrison now owns the Beavers’ longest active hit streak as Jeff Hendrix’s 15-gamer was snapped in the win. Harrison is at four games, where he is 7-for-18 (.389) with seven RBI and two home runs.
Hamilton Stepping Up At Short
Caleb Hamilton was forced into the starting role at shortstop after Trever Morrison’s absence, and shined. He has hit safely in six of the nine games since the move, with three multi-hit games. Perhaps more importantly, he has just one error in 49 chances, a .980 fielding percentage.
Singles
• Scotland Church has tossed 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief this week. He came into it having thrown just eight innings.
• The OSU bullpen has lowered its overall ERA to 3.32 as it has allowed just two earned runs in 21 2/3 innings in the month of May.
• The Beavers tied a season-best with 10 walks in the opener, but also set a season high with 13 runners left on base. Twelve of the 13 were left on base in the first six innings.
• Head coach Pat Casey owns 29 of the team’s 37 all-time wins (.784) against Stanford. OSU was 8-19 versus the Cardinal prior.
• OSU is 26-8-1 when scoring first in 2015.
• The Beavers improved to 7-7 on the road with Friday’s win.
