Last Game
Drew Rasmussen scattered five hits over 8 1/3 innings to send the Beavers to a 2-0 win over Utah on Saturday afternoon. Mitch Hickey spun a double play with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to end the game, picking up his ninth save of the season. Kyle Nobach and KJ Harrison each hit sacrifice flies to account for both of OSU’s runs. Rasmussen walked one and struck out five in the win.
Time Change
Fans should remember that Sunday’s game is a 12:05 p.m. PT start. It was moved up from the original 1:05 start due to Utah’s travel schedule.
Three In A Row?
Oregon State has posted shutout victories over the Utes to open the series. It’s the first time since back-to-back shutouts over Stanford in 2006 that the Beavers have opened a series with consecutive blankings. OSU is looking for its third straight shutout for the first time since 1993 (shutting out Washington, Portland and Portland State).
No Earned Runs = Wins
Oregon State’s pitching staff has allowed three runs overall over the last four games, and none have been earned. The staff, in fact, has allowed just 20 hits over the 36 innings. OSU’s team earned run average now stands at 3.07, the lowest mark since April 19 when it was at 3.06.
Strong At Home
Not shockingly, the Beavers have been strong at Goss Stadium this season, taking a 21-4 mark there into the series finale vs. the Utes. The club has now hit the 20-win plateau for the third consecutive season and for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The Beavers, who are 9-2 in Pac-12 play at home, last had a losing conference mark at Goss in 2007.
Singles
• Oregon State is 22-3 this season when its pitchers issue three walks or less in a game.
• The Beavers are also 23-0 when an opponent scores two runs or less. OSU is 16-0 in such games at home.
• Utah has reached base just 13 times in the first two games of the series, six times on Friday and seven times on Saturday.
• Saturday’s shutout was the team’s 31st since the 2013 campaign. The Beavers have been shut out twice over that stretch, both in 2013.
• Oregon State is 8-1 when Jeff Hendrix bats in the third spot of the lineup.
