Moore, Harrison On Golden Spikes List

DURHAM, N.C. – Oregon State pitcher Andrew Moore and first baseman KJ Harrison are on the midseason watch list for the 2015 Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced Thursday. The award is given annually to the nation’s top amateur player.
The watch list contains 60 names, with 11 hailing from the Pac-12 Conference. OSU, YUSC and Arizona are the only teams in the league to be represented by more than one player.
Moore has been electric as Oregon State’s Friday starter, and will carry into this weekend’s Civil War Series a 3-1 record and 1.63 earned run average in eight starts. Opponents are hitting just .201 against the junior and he’s struck out 55 to just seven walks in 60 2/3 innings.
Harrison is one of just four freshmen on the list, and for good reason. He’s batting .361 this season, has nine doubles, three triples and seven home runs and his 32 runs batted in are tied for the Pac-12 lead. He’s also played stellar defensively, posting a .994 fielding percentage while manning first base for the first time in his career.
It marks the third consecutive season the Beavers have had two players on the midseason watch list. Michael Conforto and Matt Boyd were on it in 2013, and Conforto and Ben Wetzler in 2014. Conforto was named a finalist last season.
From USA Baseball
On May 22, USA Baseball will announce the semifinalists for the 2015 Golden Spikes Award. The semifinalists list will be sent to a voting body consisting of past USA Baseball National Team coaches and press officers, members of the media that follow the amateur game closely, select professional baseball personnel, current USA Baseball staff and the 37 previous winners of the award, representing a group of more than 200 voters.
Fan voting will once again be a part of the Golden Spikes Award in 2015. Friday, May 22, marks the day when amateur baseball fans across the country will be able to vote for their favorite semifinalists at GoldenSpikesAward.com. As part of this selection process, all voters will be asked to choose three players from the list. On Tuesday, June 2, USA Baseball will announce the finalists, and voting will once again commence that same day.
The 2015 Golden Spikes Award winner will be named on Tuesday, June 23, at a presentation in Los Angeles. The finalists and their families will be honored at the Rod Dedeaux Foundation Dinner that evening at the Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles.
Oregon State remains on the road this weekend when visiting Oregon at PK Park. The Civil War presented by PacificSource Health Plans, The Oregon 529 College Savings Network, McDonalds, Spirit Mountain Casino and Your Local Ford Stores, will open Friday night at 7:30 p.m. PT in a game televised on ESPNU.
