Eight bowl games and 28 all-conference selections. Pretty good accomplishments for any coach, but particularly impressive for youthful Beavers’ defensive back coach Derrick Odum.
The two-sport (baseball and football) athlete at Utah is in his second tenure with OSU head coach Gary Andersen. Odum was the Utes’ safeties coach from 2005-07 while Andersen was the defensive coordinator.
Coach Odum is working with largely a young group of cornerbacks for the 2015 season, with the exception of seniors Larry “The Commish” Scott and Naji Patrick. Scott is one of only two returning full-time starters on defense and has played 24 games over the last two seasons. Patrick and sophomore Dashon Hunt are the only other Beavers who have lettered, both seeing action on special teams mainly.
The OSU video team mic’d up Coach Odum at a recent practice to give Beaver Nation a taste of what it’s like being a cover man in the new defensive scheme of coordinator Kalani Sitake.
Beaver Nation is reminded that Saturday, April 18 is the official debut for the 2015 Beavers at the annual Spring Game at Reser Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. For more details of the full day of events please follow this link.
The response has been strong to the Coach Andersen hire as season ticket sales are pacing at a feverish rate for this time of the year as the excitement continues to build for the new era of Beaver football. The season kicks off Friday, Sept. 4 at Reser Stadium vs. Weber State in a nationally televised game. To get in on the action go to beavertickets.com or call 800-Go-BEAVS during business hours.
