Five Beavers Earn All-Academic Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Five Oregon State wrestlers have garnered Pacific-12 Conference All-Academic honors, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Friday.
Juniors Aaron David and Seth Thomas earned first-team honors. Junior Zac Cardwell and senior Alex Elder earned second-team honors and junior Jared Reis earned honorable mention.
A biology major from Klamath Falls who graduated from Henley High School, David has a 3.77 cumulative grade-point average. He was 5-4 this past season.
Thomas has a 3.57 GPA in biology. A native of Myrtle Creek, Ore., who graduated from Roseburg High School, he was 26-16, took second place at the Pac-12 tournament at 165 pounds, and advanced to the NCAAs for the first time in his career.
Elder has a 3.22 GPA in public health. The West Salem High School grad was 34-12 this season, won the Pac-12 Championship at 157 pounds and went 3-2 in his first appearance at the NCAA tournament. It is the third time Elder has earned All-Academic honors; he was a second-team choice in 2013 and 2014.
Cardwell has a 3.39 GPA in exercise and sports science. A Lowell, Ore., native and graduate of Lowell High School, he was 10-7 this past season.
Reis is a native of Napoleon, N.D., who has a 3.03 GPA in pre-business. A graduate of Napoleon-Streeter-Gackle High School, he was 14-8 this season.
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. The Pac-12 All Academic regulations define a “starter or significant substitute” as having participated in 50 percent of a team’s scheduled contests, except in unusual circumstances, such as injury.
