Last Game
Christian Donahue’s sacrifice fly in the ninth proved to be the game winner as the Beavers opened the series with UCLA with a 3-2 win. Andrew Moore was sharp on the mound, limiting the Bruins to four hits and an unearned run for the win.
Ironic
The series features the two best teams in the Pac-12 Conference at fielding, percentage-wise, and only one of the five runs scored in the opener was earned as OSU committed one error and UCLA two. The Beavers improved to 10-0 this season when an opponent makes two or more errors.
Down In LA
Oregon State won its sixth consecutive game over the Bruins, extending a program-record. The win was also the Beavers’ third straight at Jackie Robinson Stadium, pushing their all-time record at UCLA to 14-16. OSU has never been swept by UCLA in Los Angeles in a three-game series and has claimed four of the last five series there.
Moore With Another
Andrew Moore lowered his earned run average to 1.64 with 7 2/3 innings Thursday night (he allowed just one unearned run). It was his eighth quality start of the season and the 20th overall for the Beavers, who are 17-3 when that happens. Today’s probable starter, Drew Rasmussen, has five of his own; the Beavers are 3-2 in such games.
On TV
The entire series against the Bruins will air on the Pac-12 Networks - national, in Oregon and in the Los Angeles region. All 11 of Oregon State’s remaining Pac-12 road games will be broadcast, including the opener at Oregon April 10 which will be seen on ESPNU. The other 10 will be on the Pac-12 Networks.
Singles
• Drew Rasmussen, Friday’s probable starter on the hill, has tossed just five walks in 38 innings when he starts - four in nine relief innings. He also has just one walk in 15 2/3 innings against Pac-12 competition.
• KJ Harrison and Trever Morrison both come into Friday night’s game with five-game hit streaks and have combined for seven RBI and two doubles during them.
• A win Friday would keep the Beavers just one win off the 2014 team’s record after 30 games.
