Anica Yoo Advances To NCAA Regionals

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior Anica Yoo was selected as an individual to compete at the NCAA Division I Women‘s Golf Regionals, which will be held Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9 at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
The Oregon State women’s golf team narrowly missed out on earning a trip to postseason play.
Seventy-two teams and 24 individuals received bids to the four NCAA Regional sites. After the twenty-nine conference champions and 43 at-large selections were made, the top 24 individuals not on a selected team were chosen based on the selection criteria.
Golf Channel will feature scores, highlights and interviews from the regional championships, airing within Golf Central and Morning Drive. The low six teams and low three individuals (not on those teams) from each of the four regionals advance to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships, taking place Friday, May 22 through Wednesday, May 27 at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. Golf Channel will air live coverage of the final three days of the Women’s Golf Championships.
“Collectively, we are pretty disappointed that we were not selected by the NCAA as a team,” Oregon State head coach Sammie Chergo said. “I firmly believe, with my year spent on the NCAA Committee, that our play this spring and how we played at the Pac-12 Championship really deemed us worthy of a spot. It’s unfortunate the committee didn’t look at our case a little more closely.
“However, with that said, I couldn’t be more happy or proud of how hard this group worked this spring. We had a spring season that I think can go in the record books here at Oregon State with the way we played at Pac-12’s and beating Arizona State.
“I’m thankful for the hard work and the competitive spirit that these Beavers showed this spring. We look forward to carrying that momentum to next year.
“As disappointing as it is that the NCAA didn’t select us, we are really pumped for Anica. She has been the face of this program for the last handful of years. For her to be able to go out her senior year, playing so well this spring and for us to spend time with her at the NCAA Regional, it should be a blast. We really look forward to her getting in there and competing and seeing what she can do down there in San Antonio. We are happy for her. She deserves it. This is a great opportunity for her to prove that she’s one of the best college golfers in the country.”
Yoo led the Beavers with a scoring average of 74.93, which would be the second-lowest single-season scoring average in school history if her season ended today (Seshia Telles, 74.79, 2013-14). Yoo had four top-10 finishes and shot a pair of 4-under 68’s to equal the lowest round in Oregon State history.
She finished second at both the Oregon State Invitational and Bruin Wave Invitational, and recorded the best-ever score by a Beaver golfer at the Pac-12 Championship, a 1-under 212, to finish eighth in one of the most competitive fields of the year.
A native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Yoo has played 132 career rounds, the third most in Oregon State history, and has a career scoring average of 75.75, which is currently the second best in school history (Seshia Telles, 75.59).
As a team, Oregon State had a very successful season under first-year coaches Sammie Chergo and Dawn Shockley. The Beavers won the team title at the Oregon State Invitational, and finished second at the Silverado Showdown and eighth at the Pac-12 Championship, equaling its highest finish at the conference tournament since 1998.
