Last Game
Billy King hit a pinch hit single in the ninth to score Dane Lund from third, sending the Beavers to a 3-2 win over USC Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium. Drew Rasmussen tossed eight innings in the win, scattering seven hits and two runs. The win went to Sam Tweedt, who picked up his fifth victory of 2015 with a scoreless inning of relief. Jeff Hendrix drove in two runs and Lund went 3-for-3.
Someone Say Walkoff
Billy King’s walkoff single Saturday marked the Beavers’ seventh victory in their last at bat this season, and the second with King at the plate. He did it against Kansas State, and the Beavers have also won in their last at bat against Northwestern (a balk), Michigan State, Fresno State twice and Washington State. That has helped the Beavers to a 9-3 record in one-run games this season.
Young Lineup
Youth has highly publicized for the Beavers this season and that was clearly the case on Saturday. The Beavers started seven underclassmen in their lineup - including starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen.
Creme or Black?
Typically, the starting pitcher selects which uniform the team will wear at home. It will be interesting to see what Travis Eckert will do Sunday. The Beavers are 6-0 in the creme uniforms this season, including 4-0 at Goss Stadium. OSU, meanwhile, is 3-0 in the black tops at home, but 4-4 overall as those tops can also be worn as the visiting team on the road.
Speaking Of Eckert
Sunday’s probable starter, Travis Eckert, has clearly enjoyed pitching at home in his first season with the Beavers. He is 4-0 with a 1.77 ERA in 35 2/3 innings at Goss Stadium. He has struck out 25 to 10 walks at home.
Singles
• OSU’s attendance average at home, 2,766, is 23rd nationally and second in the Pac-12.
• The Beavers are averaging 2,881 fans per home game in Pac-12 play.
• Oregon State is 18-0 when holding an opponent to two runs or less this season, and 13-0 at home.
• OSU is 21-5 when getting a quality start from its staff this season, and 14-2 when that happens at Goss Stadium.
• OSU is still looking for its first “true” come-from-behind win. The Beavers are 0-8 when traveling after both the sixth and seventh innings and 0-11 when entering the ninth behind.
