Last Game
Caleb Hamilton homered for the second time this season and Billy King drove in two with a double in the eighth inning but it wasn’t enough in an 11-3 loss to No. 10 USC to open the series on Friday night. Scotland Church, who also tossed two innings of relief to close out the game, paced the Beavers with two hits, both of which were singles. OSU finished with seven hits in the loss.
Looking To Even The Series
Saturday’s game gives the Beavers an opportunity to even the series at a game apiece, which would give the Beavers the chance for their third series victory during conference play. The Beavers swept Washington State and took 2-of-3 from Arizona. OSU lost 1-2 series each to Arizona State, UCLA and Oregon.
Inching Closer
Head coach Pat Casey is getting closer to the top in the Pac-12 record books. Sunday’s victory over Arizona was his 740th in 21 seasons at Oregon State. He now needs seven wins to tie UCLA’s Art Reichle (1941, 1946-71) for ninth all-time.
Rare
Scotland Church achieved a rare feat in Friday night’s loss. He led the Beavers on the mound and at the plate. He tossed two scoreless innings to end the game, needing just 11 pitches to do so. He also went 2-for-4 offensively, singling in the fifth and ninth innings.
16-4 At Home
Oregon State carries a 16-4 home record into the second game of the series with the Trojans, putting the Beavers within reach of 20 wins at Goss Stadium for the third consecutive season. Oregon State is now 1,150-478-1 all-time at its friendly confines, a .707 winning percentage.
Singles
• OSU’s attendance average at home, 2,763, is 23rd nationally and second in the Pac-12.
• The Beavers are averaging 2,890 fans per home game in Pac-12 play.
• OSU is 20-5 when getting a quality start from its staff this season, and 13-2 when that happens at Goss Stadium.
• The Beavers dropped to 11-2 this season when scoring first at Goss Stadium.
• OSU is still looking for its first “true” come-from-behind win. The Beavers are 0-8 when traveling after both the sixth and seventh innings and 0-11 when entering the ninth behind.
• Oregon State is 5-2 on Saturday at home this season.
