Last Game
Travis Eckert limited Arizona to five hits and two runs and KJ Harrison drove in three runs as the Beavers defeated the Wildcats, 5-3, in the series finale between the teams on Sunday. Billy King drove in a second-inning run to tie the score at one and Michael Howard put the Beavers up for good with his third home run of the season in the fourth. Eckert settled down after a first-inning run for his fourth win of the season.
Moore Honored
Andrew Moore handled the Pac-12’s most potent lineup in a win over Arizona last weekend and was named the Pac-12’s Pitcher of the Week on Monday. It’s the third of his career. Moore currently sits at No. 2 in the Pac-12 - and first amongst starters - with a 1.40 earned run average while his .186 batting average against is best in the league. Moore’s microscopic WHIP of 0.81 is sixth-best nationally.
Inching Closer
Head coach Pat Casey is getting closer to the top in the Pac-12 record books. Sunday’s victory over Arizona was his 740th in 21 seasons at Oregon State. He now needs seven wins to tie UCLA’s Art Reichle (1941, 1946-71) for ninth all-time.
Great Weekend On The Hill
The Oregon State pitching staff had a great weekend on the hill against Arizona. The Beavers limited the Wildcats to seven runs and 16 hits over 27 innings. The staff walked 11 and struck out 20 over the three games. Arizona batted just .170 with four extra-base hits.
16-3 At Home
Oregon State carries a 16-3 home record into the series with the Trojans, putting the Beavers within reach of 20 wins at Goss Stadium for the third consecutive season. Oregon State is now 1,150-477-1 all-time at its friendly confines, a .707 winning percentage.
Singles
• Andrew Moore’s career ERA stands at 1.99, good for third all-time at OSU. It has dropped .21 this season.
• Moore also has 24 career victories and needs one to tie Sam Gaviglio (2009-11) and Scott Anderson (1981-84) for ninth all-time at Oregon State.
• OSU’s attendance average at home, 2,767, is 23rd nationally and second in the Pac-12.
• The Beavers are averaging 2,922 fans per home game in Pac-12 play.
• OSU is 20-5 when getting a quality start from its staff this season, and 13-2 when that happens at Goss Stadium.
