Coming up:
The Beavers will close out their 2015 home slate this weekend, when they host UCLA in a three-game series that will begin Saturday at 1 p.m. The teams will play game two of the weekend set at noon on Sunday, before Oregon State plays its final home game of the year Monday at 4 p.m. as the team celebrates Senior Day.
Facing The Vikings:
Oregon State is 88-32-1 all-time against Portland State, and has won all four of the teams’ meetings since Laura Berg took over a head coach. The Beavers topped the Vikings 13-1 and 6-3 in last season’s doubleheader, which was played at the OSU Softball Complex.
Give Me Gilmore:
Senior Dani Gilmore has continued her fantastic collegiate career this season, leading the team with a .383 batting average and nine home runs, while continuing to do outstanding defensive work in center field. The senior is slugging a team-best .695 through 43 games this season, and had another outstanding weekend in Tempe, batting .545 over the course of the three-game series and hitting the game-winning home run in the top of the seventh, as the Beavers topped No. 21 Arizona State on Friday.
More Gilmore:
Gilmore reached yet another career milestone last weekend, when she became the 10th player in Oregon State history to reach 200 career hits on Saturday. She did not stop from there, as the senior notched three hits on Sunday to move into a tie for ninth on the OSU hit list. Gilmore entered the season with a .336 career batting average, good for fifth in school history, and has continued to improve that number, moving up to .347. Gilmore moved into the Oregon State career lead with 162 career runs earlier this year, and is second in school history with 118 career walks.
Chirichigno Crushes:
Senior CJ Chirichigno ripped the cover off the ball against Arizona State last weekend, hitting three home runs over the course of the series. Chirichigno started things off with a solo shot on Friday evening that brought the Beavers within striking distance as the team overcame a late deficit to earn the win. She followed that up with a pair of home runs in game two of the series, including a homer that cleared the scoreboard in left field.
