Last Game
Mak Fox held Oregon to just one walk for his first career save as the Beavers defeated the Ducks, 4-2, on Saturday night.
Underclassmen Shine
Oregon State saw nine underclassmen (freshmen and sophomores) see action in Saturday night’s victory, and they played a key role in the victory. Five of the six hits came via underclassmen, and Drew Rasmussen and Mak Fox combined to limit UO to just three hits and two runs in the win. Of course, KJ Harrison, a freshman, came away with a huge three-run double in the second inning.
Five In Two
The Oregon State pitching staff has limited the Ducks to just five hits in 17 2/3 innings over the first two games of the series. That puts Oregon at a .086 average. Because two of the five hits have gone for doubles, the Ducks’ slugging percentage jumps to .121. Of course, UO has accumulated 11 walks and four hit by pitches, which helps for the series split thus far.
Going For The Series Win
Oregon State will be playing in its third rubber match of the Pac-12 Conference season, with all three coming on the road. The Beavers are looking for their first win in a rubber match in conference play. A win Sunday would give the Beavers their fourth consecutive conference series victory over the Ducks. Oregon has won just one series since re-instating its program in 2009; a sweep in 2011 at PK Park.
Singles
• The Beavers snapped an eight-game streak of failing to score in the first inning when plating one on Saturday night. Prior to the game, the Beavers had last scored in the first on March 24.
• The Beavers are 18-4 when getting a quality start from their pitcher, but 4-4 when an opponent does so.
• The win, coupled with Arizona’s loss to Arizona State, enabled the Beavers to pull into a fifth place tie with the Wildcats. OSU also moved up a game, to 3.5 behind UCLA, thanks to the Bruins’ 5-0 loss to USC.
• OSU is 16-4 when scoring first this season, and 16-0 when holding an opponent to two runs or less.
