Franklin Tied For Ninth Through 36 In Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Alex Franklin continued his hot play by shooting 72-70 during Saturday’s 36-hole play at the two-day, 54-hole tournament Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
Franklin had five birdies over the two rounds to shoot an even-par 142 at the par-71, 7,455-yard Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club to put him in a tie for ninth place with three other golfers. Only eight players are ahead of the lefty on the leaderboard, led by Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans who opened with a 5-under 137.
A native of San Rafael, Calif., Franklin has posted three top-10 finishes in his senior campaign, including a tie for eighth place at the Beavers’ last tournament, the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. He had two top-10 finishes last season in his first year at Oregon State. His best career finish is sole seventh at the Mark Simpson Invitational a year ago.
The Beavers are the only Pac-12 team in a competitive 14-team and they sit in 12th place with a 12-over 296-299--595. Georgia Tech is the only team in red figures and has an eight-stroke lead over Ohio State and SMU after opening with a 6-under 562.
The final round will begin at 8 a.m. ET (5 a.m. PT) on Sunday with tee times off the first and 10th holes. Live scoring is available at birdiefire.com.
Junior Brian Jung played great in the morning round, carding a 1-over 72 that included two birdies, and is tied for 30th place with a 5-over 72-75--147.
Senior Scott Kim is in 59th place with a 10-over 77-75--152, sophomore Kevin Murphy is in 67th with a 14-over 75-81--156 and junior Chris Tedesco sits in a tie for 70th with a 16-over 79-79--158.
