Beavers Face Rainbow Wahine, Fall 4-1

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Oregon State softball team (18-6) faced the host Hawaii Rainbow Wahine (14-8) in continued action at the Outrigger Resort Spring Fling Tournament Friday evening. Hawaii scored early and held off OSU, taking the game 4-1.
Hawaii got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. The first two runners reached base and scored later in the inning with a 3-run home run.
The Beavers got a run back in the top of the second, starting with a double from Lovie Lopez. Ya Garcia came to the plate next and singled into right field, advancing Lopez to third. Mikela Manewa singled through the left side two pitches later, scoring Lopez and pulling the Beavers with two runs at 3-1.
Hawaii scored another run in the bottom of the sixth, putting together a walk, a single and an error to score a run and taking a 4-1 lead heading into the seventh inning.
Manewa reached base for the third time in the game, earning a walk to start the inning. The Beavers could not get any other runners on. Hawaii earned the win, taking the game 4-1.
Manewa went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Lopez went 2-for-3, raising her season batting average to .304.
Bev Miller was saddled with the loss, with her record falling to 10-5 on the year. She allowed only six base runners after the three-run first inning. Miller scattered seven hits while walking three and striking out three.
The Beavers will return to action Saturday, March 7 at 4 p.m. PT when they face East Carolina for the second time in the week. The Beavers defeated the Pirates 2-1 in eight innings Yesterday, Thursday, March 5.
