Beavers Take Series Finale Over #17 Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Oregon State (23-11, 4-5) took the series finale Sunday afternoon against the No. 17 California Golden Bears (26-7, 4-5). The Beavers held the Bears to just five hits, taking the game by a final score of 3-1.
The Beavers struck first, scoring in the second inning. Sammi Noland started the inning with a single to left field. Hannah Akamine came up next and dropped down a sacrifice bunt, advancing Noland to second. McKenna Arriola delivered a one out single to right field, scoring Noland and giving OSU a 1-0 lead.
Oregon State added another run in the fifth inning. Lovie Lopez singled up the middle with one out and came around to score later in the inning on a Mikela Manewa hit.
Natalie Hampton provided an insurance run in the sixth inning, pushing the OSU lead to 3-0 when she drilled a 2-0 pitch over the fence in right field.
California put a small rally together in the seventh inning, scoring a run on three hits but Bev Miller worked out of the jam securing the 3-1 victory for the Beavers.
Miller went the distance for her third complete game of the weekend. She scattered five hits and two walks, facing just six batters over the minimum as her record improved to 15-8 on the year.
Manewa went 2-for-4 in the game, driving in her 28th run of the season tying her for second most on the team. Hampton hit her third home run in as many weeks.
The Beavers will return home next weekend for a series against the Arizona Wildcats, starting Thursday April 2 at 3 p.m. and concluding Saturday, April 4. All games will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
