Backlund and Cheshire Win Silver Bracket in Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Dana Backlund and Kory Cheshire took the Silver Bracket Championship last weekend competing as an outside team in the Dad Center Founders Cup held at Queen’s Beach in Waikiki.
After pool play on Saturday the duo were placed in the Silver Bracket with teams from Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific University and the University of Oregon.
Backlund is a redshirt sophomore on the Oregon State volleyball team that reached the Sweet 16 during the 2014 season, while Cheshire will enter 2015 as a freshman after redshirting the 2014 season.
“I think it’s a great tribute to both of them,” said OSU Volleyball head coach Terry Liskevych. “Winning that silver bracket, that’s an unbelievable accomplishment, especially since it is the first tournament playing together and the first time that Kory played in a sand tournament. It shows the versatility of both of them and bodes well for their play indoor in the future.”
Backlund and Cheshire defeated Chaminade 3 in the Quarterfinals 21-9, 21-10. After that duo were matched up against Oregon in the Semifinals, downing the team 21-18, 23-21. The pair of Backlund and Cheshire finished the weekend on a high points, downing Chaminade 2 by a final score of 21-5, 21-12 taking the Silver Bracket Championship.
