Sam Tweedt scattered three hits and a run over eight innings to help pace the Beavers to a 6-1 win over San Jose State Tuesday night at Goss Stadium. Trever Morrison drove in three runs and Caleb Hamilton posted two RBI to pace the Beavers to their fourth consecutive victory. Tweedt struck out four to improve to 4-0 this season.
Morrison’s Big Night
At 0-for-2, that might not be what comes to mind but Trever Morrison drove in a career-best three runs in Tuesday’s win despite not collecting a hit. The sophomore hit a sacrifice fly to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead in the first. Then, in OSU’s four-run fourth, he hit into a fielder’s choice that enabled two runs to score.
Starters’ ERA Dropping
Sam Tweedt’s win Tuesday night marked the 10th victory by an OSU starting pitcher this season, and the third by the right-hander. OSU’s starters have a 2.61 earned run average and have walked just 28 batters in 151 1/3 innings. The group’s WHIP is 0.96 and they’ve accumulated 16 quality starts. The Beavers are 14-2 this season when that happens.
At Home
Oregon State is 12-0 at home this season and has four more games at Goss Stadium before visiting UCLA next week. The Beavers are batting .296 as a team at Goss, while opponents are hitting .157. OSU’s ERA is a miniscule 1.45 while opponents have posted a 7.53 mark.
Against San Jose State
The Beavers’ win over San Jose State Tuesday night marked OSU’s first against the Spartans since the 1999 season. It was also the first game the teams played in Corvallis since the series between the two began in 1953. The 21 previous matchups had been played in San Jose.
