Shelton Invited to US U-23 Camp

CHICAGO – Former Oregon State men’s soccer player Khiry Shelton has been invited to the United States under-23 National Team’s first camp of 2015, head coach Andi Herzog announced this week. Shelton is one of 18 players called to Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina, as the team begins its qualifying preparations for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The team will train from March 23-26 and then face Bosnia’s U-23 National Team on Friday, March 27, in Tuzla, before travelling to face Denmark on Tuesday, March 31.
Shelton has played in all three of New York City FC’s matches this season, after being drafted second overall by the club at this year’s MLS SuperDraft.
Shelton, who was named Pac-12 Player of the Year in November, was an All-Far West First Team honoree, becoming the fourth player in school history to receive the award. Shelton finished the season with a Pac-12 leading 32 points, good for third on the Oregon State’s single-season list, and a new record for an OSU senior. Shelton ended the year with 12 assists, one short of an Oregon State school record, as he helped lead the Beavers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2003 and the first NCAA Tournament victory in school history. His 10 goals were good for second on the team.
