Last Game
Oregon State swept Grambling State in a doubleheader Saturday, winning game one, 25-3, before taking game two, 9-2. The Beavers totaled 34 runs and 34 hits in the DH sweep. Drew Rasmussen picked up the win with 7 2/3 innings in his first start, in game one, then watched as Travis Eckert won game two with an eight-inning start. OSU hit four home runs in the first game, and followed that up with a solo shot in game two.
Going For 22
Oregon State has won 21 consecutive games against Portland, a streak that is equaled only by a stretch from 1959-69. Should the Beavers win their 22nd, it would be OSU’s longest win streak against any school in team history.
Balance
In the first eight games of the season, freshman KJ Harrison accounted for 13 of the team’s 44 runs batted in (29.5 percent). That figure was flipped significantly in the series sweep of Grambling State. He recorded one RBI during the series; OSU tallied 42 as a team. Overall, OSU batted .394 over the three games, finishing with five doubles, three triples and six home runs - a .661 slugging percentage. The Beavers also struck out just nine times.
Home Runs
Oregon State hit six home runs in its series sweep of Grambling State, pushing the team’s total to 13 over the first 11 games of the season. Oregon State did not hit its 13 home run of the 2014 campaign until the 39th game. The Beavers have also had seven players hit at least one home run in 2015, matching 2014’s output.
On Track With 2014 Club
Oregon State’s 8-3 record 11 games in the season is on track with the 2014 club, and three games behind the 2013 team, which eventually won its first 15 games of the season. The Beavers’ intended strength of schedule for the 2015 season (according to BoydsWorld.com) is 29th.
Singles
• The Beavers’ 25 runs Saturday are the club’s most since putting up 25 against Portland during the 2004 season.
• Oregon State scored at least one run in 18 of the team’s 24 innings to the plate during the series sweep of Grambling State.
• Oregon State has won eight of its 21-game streak against Portland on the road. Overall, the Beavers have a 10-game win streak at Joe Etzel Field.
• OSU is 7-3 in day games in 2015.
