Tedesco, Murphy Lead Beavers At NIT

TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior Chris Tedesco and sophomore Kevin Murphy each fired a 1-over 73 in the second round of the National Invitational Tournament on Sunday to lead the Oregon State men’s golf team in the second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
Senior Scott Kim added a 2-over 74 and senior Alex Franklin carded a 3-over 75 at the par-72, 7,200-yard OMNI Tucson National - Catalina Course to make up the Beavers’ scoring in the second round.
Oregon State sits in 13th place in the 15-team field with a 19-over 300-295--595. California leads through 36 holes with a 5-under 571, while New Mexico is second with a 3-under 573 and Santa Clara is third with an even-par 576.
“If you take a look at our scorecards, we really had three fluky holes that ended up being the difference between a good round and where we ended up today,” Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. “I was really proud of the way Kevin battled back to shoot 73. At 4 over through seven holes it could have been easy to let it get out of hand. But he did the opposite and it was great to see.”
On the individual leaderboard, Franklin is tied for 34th with a 3-over 72-75--147 for a tie for 34th place. Tedesco and Murphy are both tied for 37th with a 4-over 148 with both going 75-73 over the first two rounds.
Kim is tied for 61st with an 8-over 78-74--152 and junior Brian Jung is tied for 74th with a 13-over 81-76--157.
The final round begins at 7 a.m. PT (8 a.m. MT) with tee times off the first and 10th holes. Live scoring is available at birdiefire.com.
