Last Game
OSU was unable to hold on in a 7-4 loss to Arizona State Sunday afternoon in Phoenix. The Beavers held a 4-2 lead midway through the game but ASU managed to score the game’s last five runs for the victory.
Moore At 1-0
Andrew Moore has had some hard luck in terms of wins and losses this season despite carrying a 1.42 earned run average into the series, which ranks him fourth in the Pac-12 Conference. In his last start, the Beavers only scored in the ninth when defeating ASU, 1-0. OSU is averaging four runs per game in his starts. By comparison, Travis Eckert receives an average of 7.8 runs per game support.
Hendrix Sneaking Up
Jeff Hendrix carries a 10-game hit streak into the series opener, which is the longest streak by an Oregon State player this season. He’s currently second on the team in batting average amongst players with more than 40 at bats, at .370. That trails only KJ Harrison, who at .413, ranks sixth in the Pac-12.
Still Lead In Home Runs
Neither the Beavers nor the Sun Devils hit a home run in cavernous Phoenix Municipal Stadium over the weekend, which stretches OSU’s homerless streak to four games. Oregon State still, however, leads the Pac-12 with 21 home runs, which equals the team’s total from all of last season. California, at 18 home runs, is second in the Pac-12. By comparison, this weekend’s opponent, Washington State, has hit four.
At Home Vs. WSU
OSU, which is 106-78 all-time at home versus the Cougars, has won the past two series held at Goss Stadium. The Beavers are 5-3 in conference series against Washington State since the 1999 Pac-10 unification.
Singles
• OSU is looking to keep from losing consecutive conference series for the first time since 2011.
• The Beavers have won 25 of a possible 31 conference series since 2012, which marked the first season of the Pac-12.
• KJ Harrison has 12 multi-hit games this season, which is already just nine shy of last season’s leader, Michael Conforto. Harrison also has seven multi-RBI efforts.
