Last Game
Caleb Hamilton singled home the game-winning run in the ninth inning to send the Beavers to a 1-0 series-opening victory over ASU on Friday night. Andrew Moore, Luke Heimlich, John Pomeroy and Mitch Hickey combined to hold the ‘Devils to eight hits and a walk for OSU’s first shutout.
On TV
Today’s matchup with the Sun Devils puts the Beavers on the Pac-12 Networks for the first time this season. All of the Beavers’ remaining road Pac-12 contests (including today) will be on the Networks, or ESPNU (April 10), while seven of the Beavers’ remaining home games will be broadcast.
Great Time For A Shutout
The 1-0 win Friday night was the Beavers’ first shutout of the season as the club had been “snakebitten” in low-scoring games this season. OSU is 8-0 this season when holding an opponent to two runs or less. The shutout was the Beavers’ 28th overall dating back to the 2013 season.
Another Friday Win
The Beavers have had Arizona State’s number in series openers the last three seasons, tossing three shutouts overall. OSU won 5-0 in 2013, then 4-0 last season. ASU, however, bounced back to win the second games in 2013 and 2014. OSU won the finale in 2013, but lost on Sunday in 2014.
Pac-10/12 Powers
The series is a matchup featuring the two conference programs that boast the most titles over the last 10 seasons. Oregon State (2005-06, 2013-14) and Arizona State (2007-10) have combined for eight of the 10 titles over that span. UCLA (2011-12) and Arizona (2012) account for the other two championships.
Singles
• OSU’s lone walk issued Friday night was intentional. The Beavers’ staff has issued just 24 walks in 101 innings during the 11-game win streak. Oregon State has been walked 60 times over that stretch.
• The OSU staff has a 1.78 earned run average during the 11-game win streak.
• KJ Harrison failed to get a hit for the second time this season on Friday but did get a walk. He has safely reached base in all 18 games of the 2015 season.
• Luke Heimlich has retired the first batter he’s faced in all six of his relief appearances.
