Beavers Felled by #2 Ducks

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon State softball team (19-7, 0-1) started Pac-12 play Friday afternoon, taking on the No. 2 University of Oregon Ducks (21-3, 1-0). The Ducks scored six runs in the second inning and four runs in the fourth, taking the game 10-0 in five innings.
The game was the first of the 2015 Softball Civil War series , presented by PacificSource Health Plans, The Oregon 529 College Savings Network, McDonalds, Spirit Mountain Casino and Your Local Ford Stores. The games this weekend are also part of the Northwest Rivalry Series presented by Alaska.
The Ducks got on the board in the bottom of the second, starting the inning with a double to left center. They had three hits and 4 stolen bases as they took a 6-0 lead heading into the third inning. Rainey Dyreson entered the game in relief in the inning, getting out of the inning without any further damage done.
Mikela Manewa and Hannah Akamine both earned walks in the top of the fourth inning, but were stranded on base.
Oregon got on the scoreboard again in the fourth inning, capping a four run inning with a three-run home run to left field, putting the game past the 8-run mercy rule limit and ending the game after the Beavers hit in the top of the fifth.
With the walk, Akamine has reached base in nine straight games and 23 of 26 games in 2015. Bev Miller was stuck with the loss, with her record dropping to 11-6 on the year.
The Beavers will return to the field tomorrow, Saturday March 14 at 2 p.m. when they continue the Civil War series in Eugene against the Ducks.
