Last Game
Christian Donahue had three hits and an RBI and Michael Howard drove in three runs to pace the Beavers to a 12-3 win over Portland Tuesday night at Goss Stadium. Sam Tweedt earned his third win of the season with 5 1/3 innings in a start, and Luke Heimlich and John Pomeroy teamed together for 3 2/3 innings of relief in the victory.
Back To ASU
The Beavers are making their first visit to Arizona State since the 2012 season due to a schedule abnormality that saw the Sun Devils come to Corvallis for two consecutive seasons - 2013 and 2014. At the same time, OSU visited Arizona two years in a row. The Beavers are 10-26 all-time at ASU, with five of those wins coming since 2005. Albeit, all those games were played at Packard Stadium and not Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Harrison Back On The Streak
KJ Harrison is riding an eight-game hit streak into the series opener. It’s his second such streak of eight games this season as he hit safely in every game played in Surprise. Harrison is 15-for-33 with 10 runs scored, 11 RBI, seven walks, five doubles, a triple and two home runs during the current streak.
Casey Against ASU
Oregon State head coach Pat Casey, recently the winner of his 900th all-time game, is 23-32 against the Sun Devils during his career in Corvallis. As the Beavers are 28-46 all-time against ASU, he owns better than 82 percent of the team’s victories.
Pac-10/12 Powers
The series is a matchup featuring the two conference programs that boast the most titles over the last 10 seasons. Oregon State (2005-06, 2013-14) and Arizona State (2007-10) have combined for eight of the 10 titles over that span. UCLA (2011-12) and Arizona (2012) account for the other two championships.
Singles
• The game marks just the second true road contest for OSU, but Friday’s opener will be the 10th away from home this season (including neutral-site games). The Beavers are 6-3 away from Goss Stadium this season.
• OSU’s starting pitchers have walked just 18 batters in 99 1/3 innings this season. They’ve struck out 82, giving them a 4.55:1 ratio.
• The Beavers rank first nationally with a .519 slugging percentage, and are second with 21 home runs.
