“There wasn’t a second thought.”
First-year Beaver offensive coordinator Dave Baldwin’s answer to when asked about his initial conversation with OSU head coach Gary Andersen about joining him in Corvallis.
Baldwin (full bio) rejoined “the band” with Andersen after the two coached together at Utah State (2009-11), rebuilding a dormant Aggies program into a bowl team. Baldwin alone has coached in 10 bowl games, most recently as the interim head coach for Colorado State in last season’s Las Vegas Bowl.
He and his offensive assistants have the chore of moving from the pro set formations and philosophy to a more contemporary college system.
“Coach Baldwin is a professional at coaching offensive football,” Andersen said after the fourth practice on Tuesday. “I like the direction of the offense.”
The offense will be led by a first-year starting quarterback, something that has not happened at OSU since 2010.
The OSU video team recently had the opportunity to mic up Baldwin for a practice at Reser Stadium to get the inside look at how the Beavers are progressing this spring.
OSU football is inviting any 3rd-8th grade boys and girls to the annual Boys and Girls Club of Corvallis Youth Football Mini-Camp this Saturday from 3-5 p.m. at the Merritt-Truax Indoor Facility on the OSU campus. To register or for more information please go to bgccorvallis.org/Athletics.
The response has been strong to the Coach Andersen hire as season ticket sales are pacing at a record rate for this time of the year as the excitement continues to build for the new era of Beaver football. The season officially kicks off Friday, Sept. 4 at Reser Stadium vs. Weber State in a nationally televised game.
