Beavers Set Two More Records at MPSF Meet

Seattle, Wash. - Oregon State set two more school records and had six other career top-10 marks on Saturday on the final day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
Freshman Vanessa D’Arpino took 16th place in the 400 meters in 55.61 to shave .01 seconds off the school mark she set here two weeks ago. She also ran the second leg on the distance medley relay team that set a school record on Friday.
The 4x400 relay foursome of Kerissa D’Arpino, Ahsha Mootz, Kelsi Schaer and Venessa D’Arpino placed 11th in 3:49.98 and took nearly two seconds off the old record, set two weeks ago.
"We had a lot of good efforts, highlighted by the relay and by Vanessa in the 400," coach Kelly Sullivan said. "Overall it was a great experience for this program.
"For a young team to compete in a conference championship like this will pay benefits for the remainder of the outdoor season."
OSU ended the two-day meet in a three-way tie for 14th place with five points. The Beavers set five school records and had 11 other career top-10 performances in the final meet of the indoor season.
Kira Kelly’s time of 9:48.0 in the 3,000 meters was the third-fastest in that event, as was Macauley Wilson’s 2:16.27 in the 800. Hannah Troutman’s throw of 42-4.25 was fourth-best in the shot.
Mootz ran 58.57 in the 400 to move into fifth-place all-time. Milissa Ausman’s mark in the shot (40-8.75) and Holly Cavalluzzo’s clocking in the 3,000 (9:57.83) moved them into seventh all-time in those events.
The Beavers are now idle until a March 21 matchup with Utah at the Whyte Track & Field Center. It will be OSU’s first dual meet since 1988.
"We're pleased with how the indoor season went and now we have some time to recover for our first dual," Sullivan said. "Everybody is pretty psyched.
"The full indoor season will sharpen us physically and mentally and the benefits should be obvious during the outdoor season."
