Quotes vs. UCLA 2/2/15
Head Coach Scott Rueck
Opening statement…
"Another really strong performance by our team tonight. I was really proud of their effort defensively against the athleticism UCLA has. They did a good job during the key moments of the game, to keep them out of transition and keep it a half-court game. We slowed them down and made them take tough shots. I thought UCLA played a good game. I thought they defended us well and they hit big shots, especially second half they just didn't quit, they just kept coming. I was really proud of us for answering every one of those runs with buckets at our end. Another great crowed tonight, so its a good win."
On the milestones for Weisner and Gibson…
“Awesome, just phenomenal. I told the team in the locker room that Jamie took the lid off the basket for us early in the game so those where big buckets for us. Certainly they were meaningful in that regard, getting to that number before the half. Those are just two very special players that have had a very significant impact on our program at a really key time for us. So to see them knocking sown some program awards and milestones is really special.”
On having five player in double-figures…
"It just demonstrates the depth in our team. It’s one of our strengths and we needed that tonight. Everybody can score, everybody can play. We have got 10 that all can produce on both ends of the floor, and it was neat to see in a game against a team as talented as UCLA is. You really can’t tell who was on the court. There doesn't really seem to be a bench. It’s just the next five, they’re all kinda equal and we kind of just continue to adapt and move forward.”
Junior Guard Jamie Weisner
On if she was aware she reached 1,000 points tonight…
“I think I was aware right when it happened because people had been telling me about it, but I didn’t see the board as I was walking off the court. It’s a big milestone to hit and it’s cool to share that with Ali Gibson, but now it’s happened and I don’t think anybody is thinking about it.”
On stepping up and scoring 21 last game, 18 tonight and if anything special is clicking…
“I’m not sure, I just try to be what my team needs me to be and I hit those shots tonight. My teammates picked me up I the second half. I didn’t have to do that as much[hit as many shots], I just try to do whatever the team needs.”
Junior Center Ruth Hamblin
On depth of the team...
"It really gives our team a good flow. It's not like we can only pass to one person that can make, but everyone knows that everyone can hit shots and make plays. It frees up our motion and we can make good passes and reads."
