Men?s Golf Finishes Eighth At Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Oregon State men’s golf team wrapped up the 24-team Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in eighth place on Sunday.
The Beavers finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a 21-over 289-294-302--885 at the par-72, 7,305-yard Classic Club to finish eighth. TCU (9-under 855) won the team title by a stroke over Texas Tech (8-under 856) and two shots better than Denver (7-under 857).
Sophomore Kevin Murphy led the Beavers in the final round with a 2-over 74 that included three birdies but two double-bogeys and a bogey. He finished the tournament in a tie for 23rd place with a 4-over 70-76-74--220.
Senior Alex Franklin finished the highest among Oregon State golfers on the individual leaderboard, finishing in a tie for 16th place, with a 3-over 72-70-77--219. He led the field 127-player field with 42 pars over the three rounds.

Junior Brian Jung tied Murphy with a team-best nine birdies in the tournament to help him finish with a 6-over 73-73-76--222 for a tie for 34th place. Junior Tyler Carlson finished in a tie for 63rd with a 10-over 74-75-77--226 and sophomore Conner Kumpula shot his best score on the final day to finish in a tie for 93rd with a 17-over 76-82-75--233.
Clement Sordet of Texas Tech took medalist honors with an 11-under 205, while Paul Barjon of TCU finished second with a 7-under 209 and Petter Mikalsen of Denver was third with a 5-under 211.
The Beavers have three days off before returning to action Thursday through Saturday at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
