Quotes Oregon State vs. Arizona State
Oregon State vs Arizona State
Head Coach Scott Rueck
On tonight's game...
“I’m really proud of the team for gutting it out tonight. We changed their look a bit tonight, and had to pound the ball a little more inside. I thought out team played through that adversity - made plays when we needed to and got stops when we needed to. Special night for our pink night and a great win for our program."
On the feel of the game...
"Sometimes it felt like a prize fight and other times it was finesse. As far as the team going back and forth, [Arizona State] just continued to answer. We couldn't shake them and get away from them, but made plays down the stretch. Deven Hunter fouled out and Samantha Siegner took us home at the four.”
On preparing for the next games...
"We control our destiny. With the games we have ahead, we can't look any further than Sunday. We know that Arizona beat Stanford last week and it doesn't matter how their doing to night because they'll be a hard team to guard. We just have to play great basketball.”
Sophomore Sydney Wiese
On big this win is for the team...
"Any win is exciting, down the stretch in Pac-12 play is a grind. Any win that we can get is a good one. I think there's still room for improvement with our team. I don't believe we have reached our peak yet and I'm excited to see where we go from here. I'm happy about this win, but now it's time to begin preparing for U of A."
On what it was like breaking the three point record tonight...
"It couldn't have came at a better time because it was in front of a crowd like this and family was also in town. I think it's a team record because my teammates are able to set me up well and Coach Rueck puts me in a position to be successful and score the ball. It's definitely a team record and I'm happy I was able to do it in front of a crowd like this tonight.”
Junior Ruth Hamblin
On getting more involved in the second half…
“Yeah I think I just settled down a little bit. Obviously coach challenged me and all the posts in the locker room at half time, so I just wanted to come out and respond to that the best way possible.”
On ASU making a run then OSU not letting ASU get back into the game…
“That was huge. I think a couple years ago that wouldn’t have happened. I think we would have maybe let them come back, but we rallied defensively. We had some crucial stops, and we were able to make the plays offensively. Especially Sam’s shot at the end, I thought that was just huge.”
