Last Game
Scott Schultz spun a two-hit shutout and the Beavers staved off elimination with a 4-0 win over UC Irvine on Sunday night. Michael Conforto, Kavin Keyes and Gabe Clark (two) all drove in runs as OSU took a commanding 4-0 lead after three innings. Schultz tossed his third complete game of the season.
The Starters
Ben Wetzler and Scott Schultz combined to throw two complete games on Sunday as the Beavers outscored UNLV and UC Irvine by a 10-1 total. Wetzler and Schultz allowed only six hits and five walks while striking out 14. The Anteaters and Rebels were 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position and 2-20 with runners on base.
Elimination Games
Oregon State is 2-0 this postseason when facing elimination, defeating both UNLV and UC Irvine on Sunday. Head coach Pat Casey is 18-6 all-time when facing elimination in the postseason.
Regionals At Home
Oregon State is now 15-1 at home when hosting an NCAA Regional, the lone loss coming Saturday to UC Irvine.
Walks And More Walks
Michael Conforto has been shown an extreme amount of respect this season, drawing a school-record 53 walks. That gives him 118 for his career, which is two shy of tying Ken Bowen and Danny Hayes for most in a career.
On Mondays
Oregon State is 2-1 on Monday affairs this season, and carries an 8-2 record in games played as midweek contests (Monday through Thursday). The Beavers are 2-0 at home in midweek games.
Singles
• Oregon State’s 2.26 earned run average would be a school-record if the season ended today. It would barely better the current record of 2.28 set during the 2013 season. The 2.26 ERA is second in the nation only to TCU.
• OSU is 35-0 when out-hitting its opponent.
• The Beavers are 28-6 this season when Jeff Hendrix leads off this season. He went 3-for-3 with two doubles in Sunday’s game two win.
