Last Game
Jeff Hendrix drove in the Beavers’ lone runs on a two-run single in the eighth inning in Oregon State’s 14-2 loss to UC Irvine Saturday at the Corvallis Regional. Jace Fry was saddled with the loss after allowing six hits and six runs in 6 2/3 innings of work. The Beavers trailed 6-0 leading up to Hendrix’s single and had the tying run at the plate after the RBIs. But the Anteaters scored eight in the eighth.
Visitors
Oregon State is visitors for the second consecutive game. An OSU win in the 2:05 p.m. PT game would send the Beavers to the regional championship game Sunday at 8:05 p.m. against UC Irvine. Should that occur, the Beavers would be the home team Sunday night.
Regional Tickets
The Beavers announced Wednesday that tickets for the regional are sold out. Seats may be available on the day of each game if any are returned by each school. To check on availability, make sure and follow Twitter.com/Beaver_Baseball for an announcement each day. That should come at about 10 a.m. PT.
Pac-12 Awards
For the second consecutive season, the Beavers won the Pac-12 Conference by two games. And for the second staight season, Oregon State led the Pac-12 in First-Team selections. The Beavers placed five - Michael Conforto, Ben Wetzler, Dylan Davis, Jeff Hendrix and Jace Fry - which is two shy of the school record from last season.
The Outfield, Wow
The aforementioned note does not include perhaps the most significant piece of information regarding the awards. The placement of Conforto, Davis and Hendrix on the first-team makes the Beavers the first team since Stanford in 2003 to place its entire outfield as all-league. Sam Fuld, Danny Putnam and Carlos Quentin made it that year for Stanford so there’s some pretty good company.
Singles
• Michael Conforto became the first Pac-12 player to be named player of the year in consecutive seasons since Arizona State’s Brett Wallace in 2007 and 2008.
• Jace Fry was named the Beavers’ first Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year since the then-Pac-10 unified prior to the 1999 season.
• Conforto is the first Oregon State player to be named an All-American in three different seasons. He’s joined by Jace Fry and Ben Wetzler on Collegiate Baseball’s First Team.
