Bouska Hits Sixth Double, Beavers Fall to Cardinal

STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Hannah Bouska hit her sixth double of the season, but the Oregon State softball team fell to Stanford 8-2 Thursday evening in Stanford, Calif.
Bouska finished the day 2-for-3 with a run. Freshman Amee Aarhus also ended the evening 2-for-3 with a run. Junior Dani Gilmore recorded a hit and a walk in the contest, as she moved into sole possession of second on Oregon State’s career walks list with 97.
Juniors CJ Chirichigno and Kori Nishitomi drove in one run apiece, and fellow junior Ya Garcia recorded a hit.
Of the eight runs conceded by the Beavers in the contest, seven were unearned.
The Cardinal got on the board early, scoring five unearned runs in the bottom of the first. Oregon State pulled one back in the third, as Aarhus, Garcia and Gilmore all reached to load the bases. Chirichigno ripped a sac-fly to right field to bring Aarhus home, getting OSU in the scoring column. Stanford bounced back with another run in the bottom of the frame, however, to return the lead to five.
The Beavers added a run in the fourth. Bouska started things off with a double, before advancing on a grounder to short. Nishitomi then hammered sacrifice fly to center to plate Bouska. The Cardinal rebounded again, though, scoring a pair in their half of the fourth to extend the advantage to six.
Stanford threatened again in the sixth, as it put runners on first and second with one out, but Chirichigno made a running catch before doubling off the runner at second to end the frame. Gilmore made it to third after walking in the seventh, but she was stranded, as the Cardinal took the six-run victory.
The series will continue tomorrow with a 5:30 p.m. start.
