Last Game
Andrew Moore struck out an OSU postseason record 14 batters and Dylan Davis hit a seventh-inning solo home run that served as the game-winner as the Beavers were victorious over North Dakota State, 2-1, Friday night. Moore allowed just four hits and a solo home run to improve to 6-5. Davis’ home run came on a 1-1 pitch with two outs.
Visitors
For the first time this season, the Beavers will be the designated visiting club at Goss Stadium. NCAA postseason rules stipulate that the host can also be the visitor and by virtue of the fact that OSU was home and Irvine was visitors yesterday, the Beavers will be in the first base dugout.
Regional Tickets
The Beavers announced Wednesday that tickets for the regional are sold out. Seats may be available on the day of each game if any are returned by each school. To check on availability, make sure and follow Twitter.com/Beaver_Baseball for an announcement each day. That should come at about 10 a.m. PT.
Pac-12 Awards
For the second consecutive season, the Beavers won the Pac-12 Conference by two games. And for the second staight season, Oregon State led the Pac-12 in First-Team selections. The Beavers placed five - Michael Conforto, Ben Wetzler, Dylan Davis, Jeff Hendrix and Jace Fry - which is two shy of the school record from last season.
Davis’ Heroics
Dylan Davis came up with the game-winning hit in the Beavers’ regional opener for the second consecutive season. Last year, it was a ninth-inning double that scored two against UTSA.
Singles
• OSU is 22-4 at home this season. The Beavers are averaging nearly 2,900 fans per home date.
• OSU has played UC Irvine twice, both at neutral sites. The Anteaters won, 7-2, in 1972, and the Beavers took their lone win in the series with a 7-1 victory at the College World Series in 2007.
• It will not be Pat Casey’s first meeting against Irvine head coach, Mike Gillespie, however. The two played against each other when Gillespie was the head coach at USC.
• Dylan Davis’ home run Friday tied Michael Conforto for the team lead with seven.
