Gomez Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State’s Kinsey Gomez was selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Gomez now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in June.
The academic all-district track & field/cross country teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada with District 8 encompassing Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada.
Gomez is just one of 11 Division I student-athletes honored in District 8. The junior distance runner from Coeur d' Alene, Idaho has a 3.84 GPA as a marketing major. Last year, she was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team and the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team.
This evening in Fayetteville, Ark., Gomez will be making her second trip to the NCAA West Preliminary Championships, racing in the 10K at 9:40 p.m. CT/7:40 p.m. CT Her school-record time of 34:37.80 at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on April 17 is seeded 38th in the west.
She is in the top four at OSU all-time in the 1,500m (4:26.89; 4th), 3,000m (9:49.17; 3rd), 5,000m (16:24.17; 2nd) and 10,000m (34:37.80; 1st).
