Last Game
Logan Ice’s one-out double in the ninth was the game-winner as Oregon State tied the series with a 1-0 win Saturday over Washington. Dylan Davis singled, and watched Michael Howard was walked, setting up Ice’s game-clinching hit. Jace Fry tossed a masterpiece, allowing seven hits with nine strikeouts in a shutout of the Huskies.
Back In First
The win Saturday propelled the Beavers back into sole possession of first place with four Pac-12 Conference games left on the schedule. The Beavers essentially control their own destiny. Both Oregon State and Washington are guaranteed of finishing in the top two spots in the conference.
Fry’s Day Unreal
Jace Fry was masterful in the win over Washington, sending Oregon State to its 12th shutout of the season. That ties the school-record set last season, and it also puts the Beavers in a tie for fourth nationally with South Carolina. Fry has four of the Beavers’ 12 shutouts.
Low-Scoring Series
Oregon State and Washington have combined for seven runs and 26 hits over the first two games of the series. Pitchers, meanwhile, have struck out a combined 25 batters over those two games.
Fry, Again
Jace Fry lowered his earned run average to 1.50, which is second on the team to Sunday’s probable starter, Ben Wetzler, who leads the nation at 0.94. Fry lowered his career mark to 2.03, which now stands at No. 3 in the OSU record books.
Singles
• With at least 6 2/3 innings on Sunday, Ben Wetzler will become the program’s leader in innings pitched, surpassing Ken Noble, who threw 348 2/3.
• OSU won its 40th game Saturday for the fourth consecutive season. Prior to 2011, the Beavers had won 40 or more in a season just three times in their history: 2005 (46), 2006 (50) and 2007 (49).
• The Beavers won their 20th game at home for the fourth time in the past five seasons. OSU is 20-4 (.833) at home this season.
• The first two games of the series have totaled a combined 6,632 fans at Goss Stadium, pushing the season average to 2,808. OSU can hit 10,000 for the series with 3,368 fans on Sunday.
