Daniel Robertson Makes MLB Debut

ARLINGTON, Texas. – Former Oregon State outfielder Daniel Robertson made his Major League Baseball debut on Tuesday, becoming the 27th former Beaver to play the game’s biggest stage.
Robertson pinch ran for Shin Soo-Choo in the seventh inning of the Texas Rangers’ 9-3 loss to the Oakland Athletics. He was later forced out at second before getting an at bat in the ninth, where he struck out against A’s reliever Sean Doolittle.
Robertson played for the Beavers in 2008 after transferring from Concordia in Southern California. He batted .327 with 12 doubles, two home runs and 27 runs batted in in his lone season with OSU. He was taken in the 33rd round of the 2008 MLB Draft by San Diego, where he spent his entire career before being traded last week to the Rangers. Texas immediately purchased his contract and placed him on the team’s 25-man roster.
The Beavers now have five players at the MLB level as Cole Gillespie was also called up by the Seattle Mariners last week. They join Stefen Romero (Seattle), Jacoby Ellsbury (New York Yankees) and Darwin Barney (Chicago Cubs).
Romero and Robertson have both made their big league debuts this season. Of OSU’s 27 who have seen at least one game in the bigs, 12 have come since the start of the 2001 season, and 11 saw action under head coach Pat Casey since he began his stint at OSU in 1995.
The Beavers resume Pac-12 play at 7 p.m. Friday in the opener of a three-game series against California at Evans Diamond in Berkeley. Game 2 is set for 6 p.m. Saturday; the finale starts at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Their next home game is 7:30 p.m. May 9 against UCLA. Tickets can be purchased via BeaverTickets.com, by calling 1-800-GOBEAVS or visiting the ticket office at Goss Stadium, which opens at 5:30 p.m. that day.
