Last Game
Jace Fry held Oregon to one hit over eight innings and Michael Conforto hit a first-inning home run to send the Beavers to a sweep of the Ducks Sunday. OSU took the sweep with a 7-1 win Sunday as the Beavers took a 5-0 lead after three innings. Michael Howard and Trever Morrison each posted two hits, while Conforto and Logan Ice drove in two runs apiece. Fry allowed a hit to the second batter of the game, but strolled through his final seven innings before being relieved by Brandon Jackson in the ninth. Fry struck out a career-best 11.
Against Cal
Oregon State carries a seven-game win streak in the series into Friday night’s opener. The Beavers swept the Golden Bears at Cal in 2012 and at Goss Stadium in 2013. Coupled with an eight-game win streak over Stanford, the Beavers have won 15 straight against the Bay Area schools.
Conforto Just Keeps Getting On
Michael Conforto reached base successfully 16-of-23 times in the five games last week, all via hits (seven), walks (six) or hit by pitches (two). He leads the nation with a .557 on-base percentage. He is just one of nine players above .500. He has a .471 career on-base mark.
Holding Oregon Down
The Oregon State pitching staff was dominant against the Ducks, holding Oregon to 10 hits and three runs over three games. UO was 2-for-47 (.043) with runners on base and 1-for-25 (.040) with runners in scoring position. The Ducks also batted .034 (1-for-29) with two outs.
On The Road
Oregon State will play its 13th true road game in the series opener on Friday. The Beavers are 9-3 in true road games, and are batting .317 with a 3.00 earned run average. Michael Conforto is hitting .510 and Logan Ice is at .385. Dylan Davis is hitting at a .379 while Jeff Hendrix is close behind at .364.
Singles
• Michael Howard carries a six-game hit streak into the series, and is 7-for-21 (.333) with three runs batted in during it.
• Oregon State’s starters are 25-5 this season and have a 1.77 earned run average. They have a 2.3-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
• The starters also have a WHIP of 1.13.
• Oregon State’s No. 2 ranking by Baseball America is the Beavers’ best mark since the preseason and week one.
• One win would give head coach Pat Casey 30 over California. He has more over only Washington State (55), Portland (54) and UW (43).
