Chirichigno, Gonzalez Homer, Beavers Fall

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Junior CJ Chirichigno and freshman Alexis Gonzalez both homered, but the Oregon State softball team was defeated by Washington 10-2 Sunday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.
With the blast, Chirichigno now has a home run in each of the Beavers’ last four series, giving her four homers on the season. Gonzalez’ shot was also her fourth home run of the year.
Junior Dani Gilmore went 1-for-3, extending her hitting streak to 11 consecutive games. Senior Hannah Bouska hit her fourth double of the campaign, while fellow senior Isabelle Batayola also tallied a hit in the contest.
Washington (28-12, 8-8 Pac-12) jumped out to an early lead with eight runs in the first four innings. Oregon State (13-29, 3-16) pulled one back in the fourth, when Chirichigno blasted one over the fence in left field. The Huskies scored two more in the sixth to take a 10-1 lead. Gonzalez’ homer in the bottom of the frame cut the edge to eight, but the Beavers could not score again, as the Huskies took the win in six innings.
Prior to the game Oregon State honored its four seniors, as part of its Senior Day presentation. Bouska, Batayola, Amanda Najdek and Bailee Niehus were all recognized.
The Beavers will wrap up their home slate on Tuesday, when they play a doubleheader against Portland State.
