Last Game
Ben Wetzler allowed five hits and a run in 8 1/3 innings to pace the Beavers to a 3-1 series-opening win over Oregon Friday night. Caleb Hamilton homered and Michael Conforto doubled twice in the win.
Back And Forth
For the most part, the series between Oregon State and Oregon since the Ducks reinstated their program in 2009 has belonged to the home team. The Beavers are 10-2 at Goss Stadium over that stretch, and are 4-6 at PK Park. OSU also holds a 2-1 advantage in neutral-site games.
Conforto Keeps Going
Michael Conforto kept his hot streak against the Ducks going, posting a 2-for-3 effort on Friday night. For his career, the junior is 13-for-37 (.351) with four doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI. Against Saturday’s probable starter, Jeff Gold, Conforto is 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Spreading Home Runs Around
Caleb Hamilton, in hitting his first career home run Friday night, became the sixth Oregon State player to hit one this season.
Hendrix Pushes His Streak
Jeff Hendrix tallied three singles in Friday night’s win, pushing his hit streak to five games. The sophomore is 8-for-23 (.348) with five RBI and six runs scored during it.
Singles
• Oregon State is 23-0 this season when out-hitting its opponents. The Beavers have done so 11 times at home.
• Michael Conforto has reached base via a hit, walk or hit by pitch in 10 of 14 plate appearances this week. He is 6-for-9 with two doubles, a home run, four RBI, four walks and one hit by pitch.
• OSU is 10-3 this season when an opponent does not make an error, and 7-0 at Goss Stadium.
• A win Saturday would give head coach Pat Casey his 700th win all-time at Oregon State.
• A win would also give the Beavers their 30th win for the sixth consecutive season. It would put the Beavers at 30 or more in 10 of the last 11 years.
• Friday’s game attracted 3,121 fans to Goss Stadium. That’s a season-high and pushes the season average to 2,643 per game.
