Prospective Student-Athletes

The Oregon State University Compliance Office developed this webpage as a resource for all prospective student-athletes attempting to navigate the college recruitment process and the NCAA rules and regulations associated with that process.Â
All prospective student-athletes must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center to have their NCAA Academic and Amateur status certified prior to participation in Division I athletics. The NCAA Eligibility Center will require all registrants to submit Final Official High School Transcripts for all high schools attended, Official Test Score reports from the SAT or ACT, and to answer several questions related to the prospective student-athlete’s amateur status.Â
The NCAA has several additional rules that govern the recruitment process, including rules that limit the times when coaches may have in-person, off-campus contact with a recruit, when coaches may place telephone calls to a recruit, and when coaches may send mailed or electronic correspondence (e.g. email, text messages). These rules vary based on sport and are outlined in the NCAA Guide for the College Bound Student-Athlete.Â
While this website is not comprehensive, it does include several excellent resources for all prospective student-athletes. If you have any questions, we encourage you to contact the Oregon State Compliance Office for guidance at 541-737-7369.
