Last Game
Michael Conforto drove in three runs and went 4-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored but the Beavers lost 7-6 to Sacramento State Monday. The loss came despite an early 6-1 lead for the Beavers, who tacked on all six runs against Hornets’ starter Justin Dillon. Jace Fry started for the Beavers and allowed nine hits and three runs in four innings. Andrew Moore took the loss.
Lineup Notes
Oregon State batted Michael Howard in the leadoff spot in Monday’s win. It was his first start at that spot of the order this season. Head coach Pat Casey pushed Jeff Hendrix to the fifth spot in the lineup for just the second time this season. His first game in the No. 5 spot was March 23 against Arizona State.
Does What He Does
Michael Conforto’s three RBI game on Monday gave him 41 on the year, which not only gives him the team lead but the Pac-12 Conference lead. The junior has 164 career RBI and needs five to tie for second place in Oregon State history. The four-hit game also gave him 208 for his career, moving him into fifth place. He needs 28 to tie for the most ever by an Oregon State player.
Sixth And Seventh = Runs
Oregon State has been, for the most part, dominating over the two innings. The Beavers have combined to outscore opponents, 74-17, during the two innings combined. OSU has scored more runs than its opponents in all but the ninth inning. The smallest margin? The Beavers have 19 in the eighth and have given up 16 runs.
Bullpen Adds Members
Andrew Moore and Ben Wetzler made relief appearances in Monday’s loss, giving the Beavers 13 pitchers who have come out of the ‘pen at one point this season. That equals the 2013 club’s total. Only Jace Fry and Dylan Davis have made pitching appearances but none of out the bullpen this season.
Singles
• OSU is 23-4 this season when scoring first.
• The Beavers are 21-0 when getting more hits than their opponents. Conversely, OSU is 6-8 when hits are equal or opponents come out on top in that category.
• Monday and Tuesday’s games are the first in California for OSU this season. OSU will play eight in the state in 2014.
• OSU is 5-3 in one-run games.
• OSU and Sacramento State first met in 1961.
