Beaver Add Four to 2014 Roster

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men’s soccer team will add four more players to its 2014 roster, head coach Steve Simmons announced today. The Beavers will welcome incoming recruits Alex Segovia and Rolando Velazquez, as well as transfers Jaime Velasco and Jalen Markey.
Segovia can play both at forward and in the midfield, and hails from the Beaverton, Ore. area. He has been a member of the Portland Timbers Academy, as well as the U-17 US National Team.
“Alex’s experiences with the U-17 National Team and Timbers Academy give him a good developmental foundation going into college play,” Simmons said. “He offers good attacking versatility and is comfortable running at defenders with the ball.”
Velazquez is another in-state product, coming to Corvallis from Junction City, Ore. Like Segovia, Velazquez can play both up-top or in the midfield, and has been part of the Portland Timbers Academy and the U-17 National Team.
“Rolando is another dynamic attacking player who can strengthen our playmaking positions,” Simmons said. “His time with the U-17 National Team allows him to see the game quicker than most youth players coming into the college level.”
Velasco joins the Beavers after spending two seasons at the University of Portland. He made 13 starts for the Pilots in 2013, finishing with five goals and one assist. He will join the Beavers with junior eligibility.
“Jaime brings a proven goal-scoring touch to the squad, and provides good movement off the ball to get into dangerous spots,” Simmons said. “It’s always good to get a player who has a few years of collegiate experience, and understands the nature of the college-season grind.”
Markey transfers to the Beavers from North Carolina. He will have redshirt-freshman eligibility in the fall, and will look to see time as a central defender. Markey has seen time with both the Seattle Sounders Academy and the U-20 US National Team.
“Jalen’s experiences with the US U-20 and U-18 National Teams will allow him to hit the ground running at OSU,” Simmons said. “He’s a savvy central defender with an excellent passing range. His year at UNC will serve him well as he transitions into the Pac-12.”
