Last Game
Ben Wetzler shut down NIU over eight innings, striking out 12, and Michael Conforto drove in three as the Beavers defeated the Huskies, 6-0, Friday night to open the series. Andy Peterson doubled twice and Michael Howard and Gabe Clark each drove in runs to pace the Beavers in the victory. Wetzler retired the last 14 batters he faced.
Last Three
Michael Conforto is on his second three-game hit streak of the season and the junior has eight runs batted in and five walks during it. He has reached safely on nine of his last 12 at bats after also going 4-for-7 during the streak.
Starters Going Well
Ben Wetzler’s start Friday continued a trend for Oregon State’s starting staff. The group has 12 quality starts in 14 games while sporting a 1.45 earned run average. Opponents are batting just .211 against the starting staff in 2014.
#JustDontRun
Opponents need to learn that you just don’t run against Logan Ice. The freshman has continued the long tradition of OSU catches who have held down an opponent’s running game. Ice is 6-for-10 against opposing basestealers this season.
Last Five
The Beavers are 4-1 in their last five game and own a .284 batting average while opponents have posted a .171 mark. OSU also has a .975 fielding percentage over that stretch. On the hill, the Beavers hold a 1.60 earned run average and have issued 12 walks to 35 strikeouts. The Beavers have walked 33 times and struck out just 21.
Singles
• Fans are encouraged to keep in mind that clocks spring forward on Sunday.
• Gabe Clark holds a four-game hit streak entering Saturday’s doubleheader.
• The Beavers are 10-2 when tossing a quality start this season.
• OSU has out-hit its opponent eight times this season. They’re 8-0 when that happens.
• Michael Conforto has 17 walks and 23 runs batted in this season. He is on pace for 67 walks and 90 RBI in 55 regular-season games.
• Andy Peterson has a four-game hit streak moving into Saturday’s doubelehader. He has two doubles and two RBI during the streak.
• Pat Casey needs to hit 688 wins to move into 10th plate all-time in the Pac-12.
