Women's Rowing To Open Spring On Saturday - Oregon State University Athletics

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's rowing team opens the spring season this Saturday at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore., racing against both Gonzaga and the University of Victoria.

The Beavers last raced on Oct. 27 in the Princeton Chase and Portland Fall Classic, competing well and preparing for the spring season. The Oregon State Varsity 8 boat finished in 16th place out of the 52-boat field and was the fastest boat from the west coast in the New Jersey race. In Portland, the Beavers notched a second place finish in each event they rowed in (Junior Varsity 8, Varsity 4+ Final and JV 4+ Final).

Last season, Oregon State was able to sweep the University of Victoria in all three races that the team competed in along Elk Lake, British Columbia. Two weeks later, the Beavers traveled to Spokane, Wash. and took four of five events from Gonzaga.

On Saturday, the teams will be racing on Dexter Lake's 2,000-meter course that begins at the covered bridge on the east side of the lake running down two full buoyed lines northwest towards the OAR boathouse for the finish line.

Racing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., and the first Oregon State women’s boat to compete will be the Novice 8 at 9:15 a.m. From there, the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 4+ and Open 8 will take to the water.

GETTING TO DEXTER LAKE  From I-5 North or South:  - Take Exit 188A Highway 58/Willamette Hwy - Towards Oakridge  - Follow Highway 58 East for approximately 13.5 miles  - Left at Jasper-Lowell Rd. (Covered Bridge is on left-hand side right before the turn)  - Follow Jasper-Lowell Rd. for 0.7 Miles  - Left on North Shore Dr. - North Shore Dr. turns into Pengra Rd.  - Lowell Recreation Site is located 0.7 miles from turn on the left hand side.
