Last Game
Jake Thompson and Trent Shelton combined to hold Portland to two hits and Michael Conforto drove in three runs to send the Beavers to a 5-0 win over the Pilots Tuesday night at Goss Stadium. Thompson worked the first five innings to improve to 3-0 while Shelton finished the game’s final four innings to earn his first save. The Beavers’ victory over UP extended the club’s win streak to 19 over the Pilots.
Last Non-Con Series
The series against Northern Illinois is the Beavers’ last non-conference series before opening Pac-12 Conference play next week at Utah. The Beavers have won their last five straight non-conference series at Goss Stadium, dating back to 2010.
Shutouts
Oregon State tied for the nation’s lead with 12 shutouts last season. How many did they have through their first 13 games of the season? Three. How many do the Beavers have this season through 13 games? Three after the 5-0 win over Portland. The three shutouts are tied for the Pac-12’s lead and is tied for seventh nationally.
Let Him Swing
Michael Conforto walked twice in the Beavers’ 5-0 win over Portland Tuesday. He comes into the series vs. NIU with 15 walks, which leads the Pac-12 Conference. Four of his 15 walks have come with the bases loaded. As a team, the Beavers have walked 10 times with the bases loaded. Meanwhile, the club has not walked an opponent with the bases loaded.

We wrote about this in the last notes but it’s worth mentioning again. OSU has had its leadoff batters reach 51-of-109 times, or 46.8-percent. Opponents, meanwhile, have reached just 28-of-118 times, or 23.7-percent.
