Gilmore Homers, but Beavers Fall to Bears

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Junior Dani Gilmore hit her 23rd career home run, but the Oregon State softball team could not overcome a strong offensive showing by California, as the Golden Bears took a 13-3 victory Sunday morning at OSU Softball Complex. The second game of the day was cancelled due to rain.
With her seventh-inning blast, Gilmore is now tied with Vanessa Iapala for 10th on Oregon State’s career list. She finished the game with two RBIs and a walk, bringing her total to 92 bases on balls in her career, as she moves within four of second on OSU’s career list.
Junior Ya Garcia recorded two hits and two runs, while freshman Alexis Gonzalez finished the day with a hit, an RBI and a walk. Sophomore Kori Nishitomi and junior CJ Chirichigno tallied one hit apiece, while senior Hannah Bouska ended the day with two walks.
The Beavers got out to an early lead, scoring one in the first inning, when Gonzalez ripped a double to center to bring home Garcia. California plated one in the third and five in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead, before adding seven in the seventh frame to stretch the edge to 13-1. Gilmore’s blast in the bottom of the seventh brought in Garcia, but it was not enough, as the Golden Bears took the victory.
Sunday’s contest was the only game the Beavers were able to play over the weekend, after having games cancelled on Friday and Saturday.
Oregon State will return to action Wednesday when it hosts UC Santa Barbara in a game starting at 12 p.m.
