Last Game
Jace Fry struck out eight in 7 1/3 innings but Arizona State managed four runs off the lefty in a 7-3 win over the Beavers Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium. Kavin Keyes had two hits for the Beavers, who matched ASU’s three-run top half of the sixth with three in the bottom half of the inning.
Peterson’s Hit Streak
Andy Peterson extended his hit streak in Sunday’s loss and carries a seven-game hit streak into Friday’s opener, which ties Dylan Davis and Gabe Clark for the longest by a Beaver this season. Peterson is 10-for-30 (.333) with six runs and two RBI during it.
Defense Takes No. 1
Oregon State did not commit an error in Sunday’s loss and bumped its fielding percentage to .980 on the year, which now leads the Pac-12 Conference. The Beavers have a .976 percentage in non-conference games and a .992 mark against league foes, which also leads the Pac-12.
Not Stealing Allowed
Catcher Logan Ice and the Beavers have controlled the running game this season as opponents have just a 30-percent (6-for-20) success rate in stolen-base attempts this season. Ice, who has caught a majority of innings for OSU this season, has thrown out 12-of-17 (70.5 percent) of attempts against him. He leads the Pac-12 with 12 caught stealings but does not rank in the top 10 for steals against. OSU and USC are the only Pac-12 schools with less than a 50-percent success rate against.
Saying Goodbye To March
Oregon State’s three games this week close out a busy month for the club, which will see the team play 18 games. OSU is 12-3 in March this year; its most wins in the month dating back to 1982 is 14 last season.
Singles
• Kavin Keyes needs just three hits to give him 194 for his career, which would move him into atie for 10th in a career at Oregon State.
• Michael Conforto needs one RBI to tie Brian Barden for third-most in a career at OSU. Conforto is sitting at 153.
• OSU is looking to even up its all-time series with the Wildcats and would do so at 31 wins with a sweep of Arizona.
• OSU is 9-2 away from home this season.
• The Beavers are 5-1 on Fridays this season, and 2-1 away from Goss Stadium.
