Spring Football Preview Part 3 -- The Defense

With the start of spring football practice nearing, Beaver head coach Mike Riley sat down with the “Voice of the Beavers” Mike Parker to preview the defense. It’s a group that is loaded with 25 returning lettermen, and particularly experienced at linebacker.
The team received a huge boost when OLB Michael Doctor was granted a fifth year of eligibility earlier this month. Doctor, who Riley singles out as a tremendous leader for the team, missed most of the 2013 season with an ankle injury and returns with a team-high 185 career tackles.
The two biggest question marks on defense initially are who will replace defensive end Scott Crichton and cornerback Rashaad Reynolds? Both expected to be selected in May’s NFL Draft.
This is the final post of a three-part video series with Coach Riley. Follow these links to the previous posts about the hiring of offensive coordinator John Garrett and Riley’s preview of the offense.
Spring practice officially opens March 31 with the 15-day session that culminates with the Spring Showcase May 3 at Reser Stadium. Stay tuned for details for the autograph session, Fan Fair and for the first time in recent years the 50-Yard Line Sale that will be held in the Truax Center and feature actual athletic apparel, including game jerseys, t-shirts, shoes and much more.
Deposits are being accepted for 2014 OSU season tickets for home games that include Portland State, San Diego State, Washington State, Arizona State, California, Utah and Oregon.
